Dagupan launches Lehitimo Ako, Batang Dagupeño
2018 FAMILY YEAR
TO prove that it really deserves its award as ‘Most Child Friendly City’ national finalist, Dagupan launched another child-friendly program “Lehitimo Ako, Batang Dagupeno”.
An initiative of Mayor Belen Fernandez, the program is in compliance with Republic Act No. 9858 (An Act providing for the legitimization of children born out of wedlock).
The program was strengthened by City Ordinance No. 2119-2017 that not only addresses welfare and protection of children but their rights as well.
‘Lehitimo Ako, Batang Dagupeno’ urges parents to legitimize the status of their children born out of wedlock by registering the latter at the City Registrar’s Office. Registration is free.
Mayor Fernandez cited Articles 7 and 8 of the United Nations Convention on the Right of the Child (UNCRC) which state “All Children have the right to have a nationality from birth, ensuring his protection and support by his own country. If the birth is not registered, the child will not be recognized by the state and will not receive care nor education”. (CdD_Blessie Ramos)
