Pangasinan PNP HQ named Camp Antonio Sison
LINGAYEN–The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) passed an ordinance naming the headquarters of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) as Camp Antonio Sison.
Second District Board Member Nestor Reyes, majority floor leader, said since it was Antonio Sison, a native of Lingayen town, was a former governor of Pangasinan who donated the land occupied by the PPPO, it should be named after Sison.
Sison was the fourth governor of Pangasinan since 1901. He reigned as governor briefly from March 2,1908 to December 2, 1909.
The committee report was adopted after hearing was made based on a proposal submitted by P/Sr. Superintendent Ronald Lee, police director of Pangasinan, to the provincial board.
Lee had suggested on Sept. 26, that, “It will be the pride and honor of every PNP Personnel of Pangasinan and the Pangasinenses to rename the Police Provincial Office to Camp Palaris (Juan dela Cruz)”.
Juan dela Cruz, also known as Palaris, was a Pangasinense leader in the province of Pangasinan who led a revolt against the colonial authorities during the 18th century which was also known as the Palaris Revolt, Lee said based on research made by his office.
Lee noted that all the PNP camps in Region 1 have already been named after provincial heroes of different provinces, except the PNP headquarters in Pangasinan.
A committee hearing by the provincial board members was held on Nov. 23 attended by Provincial Legal Officer Geraldine Baniqued, Provincial Tourism Officer Malou Amor-Elduayan, and police officers of Pangasinan headed by Lee. (Leonardo Micua/ Eva Visperas)
