ONE INSECURE MAYOR. One elected mayor appears so insecure, he wants all the members of the family of his previous opponent eliminated in their town’s political circle.

He tasted success when he trounced in the 2016 polls his opponent who has made a good name in public service. Remember, it’s not your record in public service that decides your fate. Institusyon ka man, pader ka man, minsan gumuguho din ang swerte.

This mayor played his cards better that endeared him to voters especially in the crucial hours of the game.

Members of the local media have different stories to tell about this mayor. Some are unkind and I have yet to hear good things about him among the working and legit mediamen.

A resident of the town confirmed this mayor’s wish, wanting the last man standing in his opponent’s family removed from office.

When he told his confidante about his wish, he was asked on what ground will the removal of the lone family member of his opponent would be.

“Basta dapat mawala na sila totally sa bayan natin,” the mayor insisted.

His confidante, who is a lawyer, reminded him that there should be valid legal ground.

“Besides, nag-iisa lang sya sa konseho. You already have the rest backing you,” the lawyer said. The mayor failed to convince the rest of his team about his wish.

Perhaps Mr. Mayor is apprehensive about the rumored comeback of the patriarch of his political rivals.

Chill ka lang, Mayor and just keep on working. Your hard work plus your secret to your 2016 political ascent should be more than enough to win you another term. But that still depends on the last hour of the political game.

IT’S STILL MEJIA VS. TAMAYO– After almost coming into blows during one of the public hearings on the proposed transfer of the Dagupan City hall, Councilors Redford Erfe Mejia and Jose Netu Tamayo find themselves clashing anew during a committee hearing on Oct. 23 at the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) session hall.

The occasion was the hearing on the need to enforce Ordinance 995-77 affecting all transport terminals whose ingress and egress are located 100 meters away from a street intersection by joint committees on transportation and laws, ordinance and judiciary.

It started when Tamayo, chairman on the committee on laws, ordinances and judiciary, called out Erfe Mejia to tone down his voice and refrain from badgering the resource person from Solid North and “to be careful as somebody might harm Councilor Erfe Mejia.”

Councilor Erfe-Mejia immediately went to the police station to enter a complaint in the police blotter that “one Atty. Tamayo, his fellow councilor, threatened him during their public hearing at the Sangguniang Panlungsod.”

Tamayo, in a separate entry in the police blotter on Oct. 25, said the claim of Erfe Mejia that he (Tamayo) threatened him during the public hearing is “libelous” and the report on this by GMA’s “Balitang Amianan” is “malicious”.

The councilor, one of the closest allies of Mayor Belen Fernandez, explained that during the public hearing, he merely warned Councilor Mejia to tone down his voice as he noted he was already badgering the resource speaker from Solid North.

He said his admonition was a mere brotherly advice, to be cautious in his way of asking questions so that no harm will befall him from persons who could be hurt “along the process.”

Perhaps, Erfe Mejia took this as a threat on his person from Tamayo and so he went to the police immediately after the session to cause and entry in the police blotter of what he perceived to be a threat from his fellow councilor.

Both councilors seemed to clash again during the regular session of the SP on Oct. 26 when Erfe Mejia introduced a resolution urging Mayor Belen Fernandez to investigate Public Order and Safety (POSO) chief Carlito Ocampo for not implementing a duly approved traffic ordinance of the city.

The measure was passed without any objection from the majority although Tamayo stood up during the discussion period, and clarified that the main reason why the buses of Solid North are still entering and exiting from their terminal through Perez Boulevard was because Victory Liner is not allowing its rival bus company to use a road lot it now owns at the back of their terminals.

Tamayo said for placing steel guards at the back of the terminal of Solid North, the later sued Victory Liner and the case is not yet resolved.

It appears neither side has been appeased so we can expect more fireworks between the two. – Leonardo Micua
