PDRRMO warns vs. swimming by the beach
BIG WAVES BY HANGING AMIHAN
PROVINCIAL Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Pangasinan warned the beachgoers to take an extra care at this time because of ‘Hanging Amihan’ that causes big waves along the Pangasinan coastline.
Patrick Aquino, Operations and Warning Chief of the PDRRMO said the warning had to be issued after four died in separate drowning incidents at the beach area of Barangay Uyong in Labrador and Barangay Nibaliw Narvarte in San Fabian.
P/ Sr. Inspector Joel Cabaddu, Labrador police chief, identified the victims as Cyrus Vinluan, Ashley Lontoco both 11 years old and residents of Barangay Uyong.
A certain Rommel Gonzales, 18, resident of Barangay Maniboc, Lingayen tried to rescue the victims but he also drowned after taken down by a strong current.
Jomar Pedroso, 14 years of Uyong, noticed the three waving for help and tried to save the victims, he only managed to save Ashley who was declared dead on arrival at the Jesus Nazarene Hospital in Lingayen.
Labrador Police with PNP Maritime, Philippine Navy and Philippine Coast Guard conducted the search and rescue operation and retrieved the bodies of Rommel and Cyrus.
Cabaddu advised against, swimming at the beach area of Barangay Uyong because of the rip current in the area which is dangerous to beachgoers even to professional swimmers.
In San Fabian, a beachgoer from Baguio City also drowned after taken away by a strong current while swimming in the beach area of Barangay Nibaliw Narvarte.
The authorities identified the victim as Carl Steven, 20, from Baguio City. (Nora Dominguez)
