THE barangay chairmen in Pangasinan came forward to manifest their support for the postponement of the barangay and SK elections set next month but with a condition.

Liga ng mga Barangay-Pangasinan chapter president, Board Member Jinky Zaplan, said the Liga fully supports the move in Congress to postpone the elections but the incumbents should not be replaced by mere appointees.

While the postponement will enable the government to attend to far more important priorities to attend to, among them illegal drugs, the war in Marawi and its rehabilitation, surge of crime victimizing the youth, Zaplan clarified that her organization would rather have the elections than have new barangay and SK officials appointed to replace incumbents.

“Mas mabuti naman at mas pabor kami na matuloy ang election kaysa appointments,” Zaplan said.

Meanwhile, she said, the Liga in Pangasinan will adopt a resolution to show support to President Duterte’s efforts in cleanse ranks of barangay officials of those involved in illegal drugs. (Nora Dominguez)
