Bautista prays to Mama Mary, thanks Comelec personnel
PERSONNEL of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Pangasinan were one in showing their solid support to Chairman Andres Bautista who was in Dagupan Friday for a Thanksgiving Mass and to dialogue with them.
Bautista shared his victory with the provincial Comelec officers with a Thanksgiving Mass at the Basilica Minore of Our Lady of Most Holy Rosary after the impeachment complaint at the House of Representatives filed against him was rejected.
Bautista was teary-eyed when Comelec personnel sang a song they titled “ANDYto ako” patterned after the melody of Ogie Alcasid’s popular song Nandito Ako to express their unending support to him.
Tarpaulins were also hung in a hall where they had brief dialogue with him expressing their support for him.
Provincial Election Supervisor Marino Salas said as a chairman and their boss and father of the commission “we are solid in supporting him and we love him”.
Bautista, a Marian devotee, said prayers sustained him as he faced difficult times in his life.
“With what I’m going through, you can really see that the secret is prayers,” he said in an interview of local media.
He said he is happy that many people are standing by him amidst all the trials he is facing.
Preparation for Oct 23 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections continues
Meanwhile, although barangay and SK elections are set to be postponed and is now awaiting the signature of the President, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Pangasinan continues with its scheduled of activities for the scheduled Oct. 23 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
Salas said the calendar of activities has been moved, specifically, the filing of certificate of candidacy on Oct. 1 has been moved to Oct. 5 and the start of the election gun ban.
The election gun ban was supposed to start Sept. 23 but was also moved to Oct. 1.
He added that Comelec personnel are ready and the teachers that will serve on the election day have already been constituted.
The move to postpone the election middle next year has been approved in the third reading in the Senate and based on reports reaching them, it is only awaiting the signature of President Duterte, Salas said.
Still, the new law requires a publication in newspaper of general circulation, he added.
If the law is vetoed by President Duterte, the filing of certificate of candidacy starts on October 5 and will end on the 11th while campaign period is from Oct. 12.
Salas added that all police escorts of politicians will also be ordered back to their mother unit. (Eva Visperas)
