Dagupan PNP’s WCPD adjudged best in region.
THE Women’s and Children Protection Desk of the Dagupan City Police Station has been adjudged the best in Region 1.
P/Sr. Inspector Theresa Miemban, head of the DCPO’s WCPD unit, said she was advised that the formal recognition of her unit’s performance will be done on September 13 during the 116th Police Service Anniversary Celebration at the Police Regional Office 1.
Miemban said, the citation was based on the unit’s investigative performance, best practices, and high solution efficiency rate of cases violence against women and children, children in conflict with the law, comprehensive data on drug-affected minors who surrendered, disposition remarks and action taken and separate data on violations against Republic Act 8353, remarks made on conviction, accomplishment on anti-trafficking of person, recognition from schools, LGU and NGO.
She said her WCPD section takes extra care in handling the cases of minors involved in crimes, ensuring that their rights are fully protected.
“While no minors are held in city jail, the erring minors are thoroughly processed in the presence of their parents or guardians before they are referred to the City Social Welfare Development Office for the intervention program,” Miemban said.
So far, most of the cases of minors handled by the WCPD are theft and involvement in frat and gang wars.
Among the most serious cases handled by her unit was the rape case of a 15-year old suspect whose victim was 14-year old girl; a 16-year old boy arrested for drug peddling, and the rescue of a 9-year old and 12-year old siblings who were abandoned by their mother in an inn and rescued by Dagupan WCPD.
Miemban cited the quick response of the WCPD unit to complaints and reports received through their hotlines (529-5604/ 0933 502 4899/ 0916 525 6802) that contributed to the growing trust of the community in her unit.
The unit also responds to complaints received through Police Community Precincts (PCP) and the Technical Operation Center of Dagupan Police Station. (Nora Dominguez)
