It was a virtual roll for Central Visayas in the penultimate day of the PRISAA national games as front-running Western Visayas prevailed only in badminton when its players Annelyn Alba, Wila Elizan, Rosalie Soberano and Rina Batuigas ruled in the women’s team competition in badminton.
Central Visayas dominated in table tennis for eight golds, another four golds in the team event in chess as well as another gold in the men’s individual final in the same event, thus catapulting it in a showdown for second place in the overall standing with second-running Southern Mindanao.
Southern Mindanao salvaged second place overall with the gold medal hauls in Boards 2, 3 and 4.
Its gold in the men’s tennis enabled it to retain second place. Unheralded Bicol region dominated the women’s individual championship in chess.
Overall standing remains fluid as sepak takraw, baseball, softball, volleyball and basketball are still being played at presstime.
Southern Tagalog is fourth in the standing with 27 golds, 32 silvers and 19 golds while Ilocos region won 24 golds, 27 silvers and eight golds, mainly from athletics.
