Espino: War on drugs far from over
LINGAYEN — Gov. Amado Espino III rallied Pangasinenses to be pro-active in keeping Pangasinan safe and drug-free.
“Let us remain vigilant. Let us take active participation whenever there are those who threaten the peace and security of Laoac and that of Pangasinan,” Espino said in his message read by Executive Assistant IV Ramon M. Morden during the declaration of Laoac town as drug-free municipality last week by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) at the Farmers Training Center in Laoac town.
PDEA Regional Director Jeoffrey C. Tacio presented the declaration of Laoac as drug free town to Laoac Mayor Silverio D. Alarcio, Jr.
Espino urged Pangasinenses to further seek ways that will bolster the campaign until the province is declared drug-free.
Pangasinan PNP records show that out of the province’s 1,364 barangays, 1,095 barangays have been cleared of any illegal drugs activity as of May 30 to June 2017 but these remain to be validated by PDEA.
Espinos said that while the data show that Pangasinan is winning the battle, the fight against illegal drugs is still far from over.
The governor had ordered a mandatory random drug testing for provincial employees in 2016 and directed the completion of the Provincial Drug Rehabilitation Center Burgos town.
Once completed this year, the rehab center will begin treating self-confessed drug users in the province who surrendered.
Other highlights of the Laoac re-declaration was the presentation of community-based rehabilitation program by Rev. Mamerto B. Camante, president of Laoac United Evangelical Ministers Fellowship, reading of board resolution by Laoac Vice Mayor Rolando Ramos.
PNP Provincial Director Ronald Oliver Lee and DILG Provincial Director Agnes De Leon attended the event.
The governor’s father, former governor now 5th district representative Amado T. Espino, Jr., co-authored the Comprehensive Drugs Act in 2002. (PIO/RRB)
