DAGUPAN City’s new police chief here initiated a dialogue with Moros residing in the city to improve on cooperation in maintaining peace and order in the city.

P/Superintendent Franklin Ortiz met on Tuesday with six Moro leaders in the city to reiterate the Dagupan City Police Station’s resolve to continuously improve cooperation with the Moro community in maintaining peace and order.

Ortiz told local newsmen Wednesday he had planned to meet them when he assumed his post last month. “This (dialogue) has nothing to do with what is happening right now in Marawi or the ongoing Ramadan,” he clarified.

“It’s just ‘getting-to-know-you” with them,” he said, adding that Moros in Dagupan City are peace-loving people.

“They, too, do not like what’s happening now in Mindanao,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ortiz said the city will continue to note high police visibility, especially during the Balik Eskwela opening next week.

He said most of the 130-strong policemen of the Dagupan City Police Station will be deployed at various schools in tandem with the schools’ security details to ensure peace and order, as well as protect the students and teachers against lawless elements.

He said there will be carts manned by policemen that patrol around the schools.

The Dagupan police also actively participated in Brigada Eskwela, providing manpower during the cleanup drive in the schools. (Tita Roces)
