Sto. Tomas, lone drug-free town
LAOAC DROPS OUT
LINGAYEN — Only Sto. Tomas is the lone municipality in Pangasinan that is confirmed as drug free after Laoac was dropped from the list, according to the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO).
A report on Friday by P/Chief Inspector Norman Florentino, chief of the PPPO police-community relations, showed Laoac rejoins five other towns declared as drug-cleared but subject to validation by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
The five towns are Alaminos City, Bolinao, Natividad and San Nicolas.
The report of Florentino confirmed that Sto. Tomas remains the lone town in Pangasinan that is drug free.
All barangays also previously cleared by the police are undergoing revalidation by PDEA.
However, a radio report on Thursday quoted Bismark Bengwayan, spokesman of PDEA Region 1, as saying that Laoac may revert as drug affected because
two of its barangays were recently found to be affected by drugs.
A drug-affected barangay means a user and pusher are confirmed to be present in the area.
Meanwhile, Florentino reported that as of May 12, 2017, a total of 1,084 barangays have already been cleared, from 1,269 that were affected. The last tally notes that 185 barangays have not been cleared.
The province of Pangasinan has total 1,364 barangays. Of the number, 95 are considered unaffected by drugs.
As of May 12, the total number of drug personalities who surrendered to the police totaled 19,422. (Leonardo Micua)
