Semi-finalists: Manaoag, Urdaneta, Binamaley Alaminos
GOVERNOR’S CUP INTER-TOWN BASKETBALL
LINGAYEN–The semi-final round of the long-drawn Governor’s Cup – Intertown Basketball Tournament in Pangasinan was played on Saturday and Sunday, March 25-26, participated in by top four teams that hurdled the quarterfinal rounds that ended on March 18.
The four teams, Manaoag, Urdaneta City, Binmaley and Alaminos City saw action in the best-of-three crossover semi-final games at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) in Lingayen.
Manaoag team was expected to show a strong performance in the semi-finals after, posting a perfect (6 wins and 0 loss) record in group B to earn the top spot for the semi-finals.
Running second in Group B to gain the other semi-finals berth was Urdaneta City with a 5-1 win-loss record.
In Group A, Binmaley and Alaminos City registered identical record of 5-1. To break the tie, the “win over the other rule” applied and Binmaley went on to defeat Alaminos City in their lone game in the quarterfinals.
In the first day of crossover semi-finals on Saturday, Group A top team Binmaley battled Group B’s second placer Urdaneta City at 2 p.m, followed by Group B’s top gunner Manaoag against Group A’s runner-up team Alaminos City at 3:30 p.m..
Today, March 26, Binmaley will clash with Urdaneta City (2p.m.) and Alaminos City will face Manaoag at 3:30 p.m.
The ongoing inter-town cagefest is a brainchild of Governor Amado I. Espino, III as part of the provincial government’s youth and sports development program. (PIO)
