PWDs, active initiators of projects
URDANETA CITY – Gone are the days when persons with disabilities (PWDs) merely wait for what the government provide to support them.
PWDs have since been actively developing and promoting projects for their sector.
This was manifested by Jennifer Garcia, president of the Region I Association of Women with Disabilities, actively pursuing social work.
Garcia said every time she goes out to meet with people, she maximizes the opportunity to advocate for the needs of the PWDs
“As a PWD advocate, hindi lang kami dapat maghihintay ng ibibigay, hindi lang kami recipients. Dapat kami din mismo gumagalaw,” Garcia said.
Garcia was instrumental in the realization of the Disability Resource Learning Centre in Pangasinan. She lauded the Urdaneta City University (UCU) administration for wholeheartedly accepting the noble endeavor of hosting the learning resource center.
“UCU is the first tertiary school in Region I to embrace the initiative and to ensure that no one would be left behind,” she added.
Garcia said that with the commitment of the academe, future students with disabilities no longer have to endure discrimination and bullying.
“We want to inspire people. we want them to feel blessed because whenever they see us, we want them to feel that they are complete,” Garcia quipped. (PIA-Pangasinan/VHS)
