City holds 2nd Children Summit

DAGUPAN CITY – The City Government of Dagupan in cooperation with the Department of Education in the city will hold a 2nd Children Summit on February 27 to March 1 with the theme “Musika Laban sa Droga”.
This year’s theme highlights the city government’s support for President Rodrigo Duterte’s strong campaign against illegal drugs.
The three-day summit will focus on enhancing further the children’s talents in music especially in singing and playing musical instruments like the guitar.
The children will be trained for free on choir and guitar lessons. At the end of their training they will all stage a concert featuring 5,000 voices and 1,000 guitar players. They will be joined in the concert by the Balon Dagupan Children’s Choir, Dagupan Kawayan Ensemble, the UST Symphonic Orchestra, Coro Tomasino and Liturgikon from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila.
On day one, the UST Symphonic Orchestra, UST Symphonic Band, Coro Tomasino, Liturgikon and Guitar Ensemble will hold a concert at the city plaza for free.
On February 28, the Coro Tomasino and Liturgikon will hold another concert and they will be joined by the Balon Dagupan Children’s Choir and the Dagupan Kawayan Ensemble.
The opening ceremony will be graced by Regional Education Program Supervisor, in-charge of MAPEH and SPA, Francis A. Domingo and Raul M. Sunico, president of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, who will give his keynote speech.
There will also be a contest on Doble Kara, Name that Tune, duet of a parent and child, Your Face Sounds Familiar, song relay, Pick a Song Challenge, Kanta-ririt, Lipsynch Battle, Videoke Challenge, vocal solo, Kanta Mo Arte Mo, Kanta Ko…Tuloy Nyo, The More The Merrier, The Singing Bangus, Battle of the Bands and Jingle Writing Contest.
The entire contest will be participated in by students and pupils in both secondary and elementary from public and private schools. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
