A five-minute pause, please
CHRISTIANS all over the world always look forward to Christmas Day. It’s Jesus Christ’s birthday.
Alas, Christmas for many of us has since taken a different meaning. Forgotten is the moment of Jesus Christ’s nativity, and the purpose of his joining mankind. In its stead, Christmas has been held as the time for generous gift-giving that has been personified by the image of Santa Claus.
Look around. Commercialism and materialism have since made many of us forget why Christmas is about Jesus. Even the Christmas carols that sang of the joy both on earth and in heaven are slowly being replaced by the genre of Jingle Bells.
When was the last time you heard “O Holy Night”?
Let’s pause today with our family members for 5-minutes to talk about Jesus, not about Santa Claus, gifts, special food preparation, colorful clothes, Ipads and tablets, smartphones, trips and outings, and make this Christmas more meaningful.
Pera na, naging ‘Bato’ pa
TIME to mock. This time, coming from Digong’s foes. Justified.
“Pera na, naging ‘Bato’ pa,” said Abigail Valte in a sarcastic hit against No. 1 policeman Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.
Valte, the spokesperson of former President Aquino, was referring to Bato’s aborted bid to give huge bonuses to policemen as Christmas gift.
Bato announced in a Dec. 19 speech about handing out from P50,000 to P400,000 to members of the Philippine National Police as reward for their anti-illegal drug campaign.
But presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said no such amount was released.
“I clarified it to ‘Bato’ and he said apparently it has not been released,” said Abella.
Lesson? Never announce anything that you do not have in your possession. Boasting is one thing, reality is another. In short, do not count the chicks until the eggs are hatched. Elementary.
