Mayor Belen welcomes SM to Dagupan

DAGUPAN CITY–Mayor Belen Fernandez again underscored Dagupan’s business-friendly policy when she welcomed SM Supermall as the newest major investor in the city.
This was highlighted when the mayor received Bien Mateo, SM vice-president for Operations in Northern Luzon, to present to her and members of the city’s Investment Development Board (IDB) his company’s project, SM Center Dagupan, in a briefing on Nov. 9 at the City Museum.
Former City Planning Officer Romeo Rosario, now consultant of the city and member of the IDB, said SM will build its project at the former Pantranco Terminal on M. H. del Pilar Street, “but the big one that will rise in a few more years will be situated at the Mayombo-Tambac area.”
He said the entry of SM Supermall in the city, already being hailed as a vital cog to stimulate the economy and growth of the city, could generate more than a thousand jobs for Dagupeños.
SM Supermall is the fourth major investor to do business in the city.
SM’s project will enhance Dagupan’s stature as the center of trade, commerce and education not only in Pangasinan but also in Northern Luzon, said Rosario.
The other major investors that already came to Dagupan since Mayor Fernandez assumed office in 2013 are Sta. Lucia Land Development Corporation (for Almeria Verde, a 7.7 hectare high-end residential subdivision in Barangay Bolosan), and Golden Dragon (for the P200 million City Mall in Barangay Mayombo).
Phinma’s Pangasinan Medical Center on Nable Street in Barangay Pantal has been renovated and renamed as Medical City.
Rosario foresees more big investments now that the city’s new Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) has been approved.
Mayor Fernandez said the coming of SM Center Dagupan is an indication that investors trust the city’s investment policies, pointing out that with the creation of the IDB “our investors are assured of a graft -free processing of all their requirements”.

She said the city’s three-step application of business permits enabled businessmen to get their permits immediately.

““We will help them facilitate all the needed requirements to do business in our city.” Fernandez said, referring to SM’s project. (CIO)
