MBTF condemns killing of 5-year-old Danica
INNOCENT VICTIM OF DRUG WAR
MAYOR Belen T. Fernandez condemned the accidental shooting and death of Danica Mae Garcia, the five-year-old girl, on August 23, assured her family of the the city government’s resolve to identify the armed men responsible for her death and the wounding of her grandfather.
The mayor gave the assurance when she visited and condoled with the Garcia family at their residence in Barangay Mayombo on August 25.

Fernandez disclosed that the police are now ascertaining the identity of the perpetrators. There was a report that a witness came face to face with one of the suspects in that incident.
Initial investigation showed that the main target of the gunmen was Danica’s grandfather, Maximo Garcia, who had surrendered to the police two days before the incident after he was informed that he was in the drug watch list of the police.
Danica was in the washroom when the shooting started. She sustained three gunshot wounds, one in the face and was rushed to the Villaflor Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
The elder Garcia sustained three gunshot wounds and is now recuperating in an undisclosed hospital under the tight watch of the police.
Ms. Fernandez expressed confidence that in due time, the police will be able to identify the suspects as she expressed hopes that the unfortunate incident will be the last.
P/Superintendent Neil Miro, Acting City police chief of Police, said a case of murder and frustrated murder will be filed against the suspect once the suspect is finally arrested.
Miro said, the PNP is just waiting for the witness to sign the affidavit identifying the
suspect. The suspect is a known notorious drug pusher and Garcia’s supplier of shabu.
Betrayal is the suspected motive for the attempt on the life of Garcia, Miro said.
Meanwhile, the police reported that 813 drug personalities have so far surrendered to the police; 670 have been arrested in buy-bust operations from 2014 to August 22, 2016; and 442 of whom are already charged in court for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
