LINGAYEN— Before he stepped down as governor to give way to the new governor, his son Amado ‘Pogi’ Espino III, now Fifth District Rep. Amado T. Espino Jr. reiterated his trust and confidence in the capabilities of his son, to perform his duties and responsibilities well and effectively as the new governor.

Speaking before the provincial government employees during the flag raising ceremony at the Capitol Plaza before he stepped down as governor to assume his new post as congressman, gave this assurance and asked for the employees’ cooperation and support for his administration.

Tulungan niyo ang inyong incoming governor… hindi na po yan bata, magaling din po yan,” the former governor said.

Mr. Espino said that Basista town under his son’s leadership has been consistently one of the towns in the province that earned the Seal of Good Housekeeping from the Department of Interior and Local Government.

When asked what advice he gave to his son, Mr. Espino said he told Pogi to maintain and improve the good programs he started including the most basic things like the maintenance of the Capitol Compound’s cleanliness.

In his previous interview, then Gov-elect Pogi admitted that his biggest challenge is how to equal the accomplishments of his father, being the “best governor the province ever had.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Espino said what he considers his greatest legacy as a governor was his success in instilling respect, fairness, discipline, and justice in all the employees through various programs and activities.

He then thanked the employees for their cooperation and hard work that led to the progress the province has reaped as evidenced by various awards in governance.

He ended his address by asking those he may have hurt in the course of performing of his duties as a governor, for forgiveness.

“Let’s forgive, forget… Let us talk of positive things,” he said.

In an interview that followed, Mr. Espino said he applied for the chairmanship or vice-chairmanship of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Agriculture.

He said a position in that committee will benefit the province since Pangasinan will remain an agricultural province in the decades ahead.

During the said flag raising ceremony, the provincial board presented to Mr. Espino a copy of Provincial Resolution 242-2016 commending him “for his outstanding leadership and performance during his incumbency for three terms as governor.”
