Mapandan’s pupils lectured on dengue, diarrhea
ALARMED by the increasing number of diarrhea cases in Mapandan, the town’s health unit decided to teach the sector most vulnerable to dengue and diarrhea how to prevent these.
The Mangaldan Rural Health Unit 1 (RHU-1) trooped to the Mangaldan Central School (MCS) and lectured Grade 4 and 5 pupils on the symptoms and causes of the two diseases of the two ailments.
The two-day event was led by Rural Sanitary Inspector Zita Lapore and junior medical interns from Lyceum-Northwestern University Francisco Q. Duque Medical Foundation (LNU FQDMF). They discussed proper handwashing and other ways on how to prevent dengue and diarrhea.
“Ito yung mga topic namin because it is very timely, especially for dengue since we have 23 new cases of dengue in the whole Mangaldan,” Jason Mendoza, Junior Intern-LNU FQDMF, said.
Mendoza said they chose to lecture grade 4 and 5 since most of the dengue cases involve children in the elementary level. Each grade level was divided into two batches to ensure better attention from the pupils.
Lapore said preventing the spread of disease is better than curing. (Alison Langit, OJT)
