BOLINAO—District 1’s three-term congressman jumped from the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) to the incoming ruling party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).

Rep. Jesus “Boying” Celeste confirmed this with The PUNCH after talks circulated he has shifted to incoming President Rodrigo Duterte’s political party.

Celeste said he took his oath before incoming House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez in Manila.

“I saw Gov. Amado Espino Jr. there,” Celeste said.

Celeste won his third term in the last elections.

He, however said, his brothers who were also re-elected to various positions remain with the NPC. These include Alaminos City Mayor Arthur Celeste, Arnold, Alfonso and Jorge Celeste who were re-elected as mayor, vice mayor and councilor respectively of Bolinao town.

The congressman said he mulled leaving the NPC at the height of the elections after he was reportedly being left out in meetings called by the NPC in Metro Manila.

“I was wondering then why was I no longer invited,” he said.

Celeste said the party had no clear instructions to go all-out to support the presidential and vice presidential candidacies of Sens. Grace Poe and Chiz Escudero respectively.
