Bangus Festival 2016 starts April 8
IT’S all systems go for the 2016 Bangus Festival!
A grand parade on April 8, along the city’s main thoroughfares followed by the Gilon Gilon ed Dalan will signal the official start of the festivities in the city.
According to Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, over-all chairman, and City Councilor Marvin V. Fabia, as this year’s executive chairman, the opening ceremony will be participated in by GMA’s “Pambansang Bae” Alden Richards.
Six contingents formed by the city’s 31 barangays will compete in the street dance competition.
The ‘Gilon Gilon‘ winner will represent the city in the Festivals of the North on April 15, another major feature of the festival.
The Festivals of the North will be participated in by eight different festivals in the north including the Bangus Festival. These are the Halaman Festival of Guiguinto, Bulacan; Mango Festival of Masinloc, Zambales; Abel-Iloko Festival of Caoayan, Ilocos Sur; Pamulinawem Festival of Laoag, Ilocos Norte; Mango-Bamboo Festival of San Carlos City, Pangasinan; Goat Festival of Balungao, Pangasinan; and Bagnet Festival of Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, which is joining the Bangus Festivals of the North for the first time.
The champion in the Gilon-Gilon ed Dalan will receive a cash prize of P150,000; while the first runner up will get P100,000, and the 2nd runner up, P80,000.
The contingent chosen as Best in Street Dancing will receive P20,000; Best in Costume, P20,000; Best in Props, P20,000; and Best in Showdown, P10,000.
Consolation prizes for non-winning contingent is P30,000 each.
Other GMA artists expected to perform April 15 during the Festivals of the North showdown are Juancho Triviño and Louise de los Reyes and Carla Abellana, and Rafael Rosell on April 30 during the Kalutan ed Dalan. ”
The festival become an annual tradition since it was started in 2003 when it earned international recognition as the Guinness World Record holder for having the “longest barbecue” of about 1,007.56 meter stretch that grilled 10,000 pieces of bangus grilled.
Other activities lined up during the festival include the Bangus Rodeo, a fun-filled search for the longest, heaviest and most beautiful Bonuan bangus, and demonstration of skills for the fastest bangus deboner, fastest bangus classifier and fastest bangus eater.
Another crowd favorite event is the Bangusine or Bangus International Cuisine showcase that features the many ways to cook bangus influenced by foreign culture.
The Beat The Feat (BTF) dance competition, the festival’s newest feature, will also take center stage exhibiting not only the choreographed dances but also serves as a platform for expressing physical strength and agility to promotes wellness.
Bangus Festival culminates with its blockbuster event, the Bangusan Street Party which is expected to draw a crowd some 600,000 revelers across the country for the grilling of the Bonuan bangus along the more than 3.5 kilometers stretch of the Pantal-Dawel-Lucao area, featuring live performances of famous bands like the Abra, Loonie and DJ Buddha; Spongecola; Lunar Lights; Silent Sancturay; Parokya ni Edgar; Bamboo Mañalac; DJ Jena, Joey Santos, Khai Lim, Franco Zarate, Mecha; and Scratchmark.
