PNoy assures MBTF of high priority
WASTE 2 WORTH PROJECT
THE implementation of the Waste 2 Worth project in Dagupan City can be expected this year given the assurance by President Aquino to City Mayor Belen T. Fernandez during his visit two weeks ago.
Mayor Fernandez said the President assured her that upon his instruction, both Secretary (Ramon) Paje of the DENR and Sec. (Rogelio) Singson of the DPWH will prioritize the request of the city for the segregation of the two hectare lot of the Tondaligan Park as site of the W2W Project.
Ms. Fernandez said she took the opportunity to inquire into the status of her request with President Aquino during the general assembly of the Kalalakihan Tapat sa Responsibilidad at Pamilya Federation.
Still pending in MalacaƱang is the executive order that will segregate a two-hectare of lot in Tondaligan Park as the site of the P85 million W2W Facility to be built with the help of Procter and Gamble and other international donors.
She said she will proceed to Manila after the kick-off of the campaign sorties of Team Belen to follow on the status of the recommendation of both the DENR and DPWH secretaries.
It is only the segregation of the two-hectare area that remains to be resolved before the implementation of W2W project can proceed.
The W2W project will convert the solid wastes of Dagupan, averaging 15 to 20 tons a day into diesel fuel which can be sold to jeepneys.
It will be built at no cost at all to the city government but the city should provide a two-hectare site for the project, thus Dagupan is seeking a Presidential Proclamation segregating a part of Tondaligan Park.
She said that aside from converting the city’s solid wastes into fuel, the project will give employment to at least 30 families who make scavanging daily in the dumpsite as their source of living. (Leonardo Micua)
