Barangay volunteers attend 1st Prov’l Population Congress
LINGAYEN— Barangay service point officers (BSPOs) in the province were gathered for the first provincial population congress in the region last March 16, 2016.
Ellsworth Gonzales, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Population Office (PPO), said the congress was held to thank the BSPOs for their volunteerism and strengthen the population programs in the province.
The BSPOs are barangay volunteers who implement the population management and development programs of the province in their respective communities.
There are presently 2,300 BSPOs in the province, making Pangasinan with the highest number of BSPOs in the country.
Lolito Tacardon, executive director of Commission on Population (PopCom) National Capital Region, who represented Dr. Juan Antonio Perez III in the event, told the volunteers to always feel ‘GREAT’ about what they do.
‘GREAT’, he said, stands for Gratitude; Rights, Responsibilities, and Reflection; Empowerment of themselves; Appreciative attitude; and Together, each achieves more.
Tacardon lauded the Pangasinan provincial government, led by Governor Amado Espino Jr., for giving importance to population management and development.
He said, “It’s rare nowadays to have a leader who supports BSPOs and maintains a population office and implements population programs.”
Mr. Espino vowed the provincial government will continue to implement programs to improve the quality of life of families.
The provincial government has been regularly conducting trainings of city, municipal, and BSPOs to improve their capacities in promoting responsible parenthood and family development to youth, women, and families in all barangays. (Johanne Macob)
