STA. BARBARA— Another supply of over 3,000 bags of certified palay seeds were distributed by the provincial government to farmers in various towns who were affected by Typhoon Lando in October 2015.

Gov. Amado Espino Jr. personally turned over the certified palay seeds to the Pangasinan Federation of Irrigators’ Association during a distribution ceremony held at the Provincial Nursery and Field Station in Sta. Barbara.

Espino, a farmer himself, said the availability of the palay seeds will help the farmers recover faster.

He told the farmers not to give up on their livelihood since agriculture “will remain as the province’s main industry in the next decades” even as he urged the farmers to encourage their children to develop other skills in other industries.

Ernesto Pamoceno, vice president of the Pangasinan Federation of Irrigators’ Association, thanked the provincial government for its continuous support to agriculture not only though the provision of farm inputs, but also through infrastructure projects that boost agriculture.

Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr. and Board Member Amado ‘Pogi’ Espino III were also present during the event.

The young Espino advised the farmers to seek to increase their production by adopting available modern technologies and innovation in farming.

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) said the palay seeds will be planted in the early main cropping season of 2016.

The farmers already received about 4,100 bags of certified palay seeds last January or early third cropping of palay in the fully irrigated areas being served by National Irrigation Administration (NIA) irrigation systems. (Johanne Macob)
