LINGAYEN – The Pangasinan Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) will begin to be on full alert when the ‘Oplan Summer- Vacation’ (Sum- Vac) is launched on March 23.

Avenix Arenas, PDRRMC spokesperson, said more than 10, 000 visitors are expected to flock the Lingayen Beach starting Holy Monday.

Arenas said the Pangasinan police provincial office (PPPO), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the local government units of Lingayen and Bugallon will be tapped as augmentation forces while the barangay officials along coastal areas have been tasked to oversee activities in their respective areas of responsibilities and ensure the safety of their local tourists and visitors.

PDRRMC again targets ‘zero drowning-incident’ this Sum- Vac 2016.

PDRRMC is currently enforcing the ‘no swimming policy’ by 6:00 p.m. at the Lingayen Beach.

DROWING ON MARCH 12

However, a week before the start of the Lenten Season, a 13-year old boy already drowned in the Lingayen Beach.

The victim, identified as Rushly Lois Gorospe, was with his neighbors and friends, about 39 of them, from Barangay Matatalaib , Tarlac City to celebrate the birthday of Dhaniel Paz and Joseph Flores.

Gorospe along with Jerahmeel Manoloto, Carmela Castillo and Vince Neil Flores were frolicking in the beach water when they were pulled out by a strong undercurrent.

A PDRRMC team managed to rescue Manoloto, Castillo and Flores but not Gorospe.

Gorospe’s body was recovered in Sual-Bugallon area the following day.

“Prior to the drowning incident, our personnel already warned Gorospe’s company about the ‘no swimming policy’ since it was nearly 6:00 pm, but they insisted,” said Arenas. (Hilda Austria)
