TOBACCO TAX SHARE

THE Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) has passed an ordinance approving the purchase of farm equipment for Barangays Malued, Salisay and Mangin using the P1.5 million share of the city from the collection of the tobacco excise tax of the city.

The ordinance was sponsored by Councilor Jeslito Seen, chairman on the committee on appropriations, following an endorsement of the Local Development Council (LDC) with Mayor Belen Fernandez as chairman.

Per CDC Resolution No. 01.S 2016, the amount will be used for the purchase of two units of kuliglig with complete accessories/apparatus such as cultivator for Barangay Malued; two units of water pumps, three units of kuliglig and four units of knapsack sprayer for Mangin; and three units of kuliglig and four units of water pumps for Salisay.

Malued, Mangin and Salisay are the only areas in Dagupan planting native and burley tobacco and other crops during the dry season and rice during the wet season being all rainfed areas.

It was the Dagupan City Civil Society Organization headed by Atty. Liberato Reyna Jr. that requested the Department of Budget and Management for the release of the city’s share from the collection of tobacco excise tax. (Leonardo Micua)
