Lingayen – The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) has approved the passage of provincial resolution no. 1927-2016 which seeks the establishment of locational referencing system (LRS) covering road networks in all towns and component cities of Pangasinan.

The said project of the national government shall also include the provision of global positioning system (GPS) road centerline and inventory of all provincial and city roads.

On its regular session held on February 29, the SP has authorized Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. to ink a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Road Board and the Department of the Interior and Local Government to jumpstart the project.

Resolution author, Generoso Tulagan, stressed in his sponsoring speech that: “Through the said project, the province of Pangasinan would be able to increase its use of information technology to maintain an accurate inventory of its road networks.”

Meanwhile, Provincial Engineer Antonieta Delos Santos noted that fund for LRS project shall be appropriated by the national government through the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) as implementing agency in partnership with the local government unit (LGU) of Pangasinan through the Provincial Engineering Office.

Inventory and condition survey of road networks in the province, Delos Santos added, will serve as guide for the Road Board and LGU – Pangasinan in planning, managing and prioritizing the maintenance of local roads in the province.

The Road Board ensures and overseas the optimum utilization of resources and improvement of a safe, efficient and environmentally balanced road network.
