Forgive and forget

THE TALK of the town now is our boxing icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao. It’s not about his coming third fight against Timothy Bradley, Jr. on April 9, and neither about his senatorial candidacy but his commentary against same-sex marriage spiced with disparaging remarks against the lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender (LGBT), that homosexuals are worse than the animals. His reckless remark became viral in social media that prompted Nike to cut off Pacquiao as an endorser which translated to a huge loss in revenue for him. His incendiary words even reached his tormentor and arch-foe Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and advised Pacman to just leave them alone (LGBT). I agree.

Pacman, who is an avid Holy Bible reader being a pastor in an Evangelical church was firm and did not recant his opposition to the same sex marriage. But he was quick to retract and he apologized for his tactless and unkind statements against the LGBT.

I’m also a Holy Bible reader and I don’t also agree with same sex marriage. The Bible clearly says “’If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.” You can find these words in the third book of God’s beloved prophet Moses called “Leviticus” chapter 20, verse 13.

Pacquiao was right when he said he’s against same sex marriage, but he blundered when he added some damning context against the LGBTs. Pacman has apologized for his statements that hurt LGBT but the damage was already done. Nobody is perfect in the world. If God forgives I don’t see any reason why we can’t. So let’s forgive Pacquiao. Let’s forgive and forget. Pacquiao brought multiple honors to this country and it’s time to pay him back with kindness and understanding.
