Bright future for Generation Z

FINALLY, we see a light for the country before Baby Boomer generation bows out. The signing into law RA 1072 or the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Reform Act by President Benigno Aquino III, which contains a landmark provision prohibiting political dynasties, has given flesh to Section 26 of the Article 2 of the 987 Constitution provides that “the State shall guarantee equal access to opportunities for public service, and prohibit political dynasties as may be defined by law.”

We see the light because we have seen how today’s generation lobbied for the inclusion of the anti-dynasty provision in the SK law that their elders in Congress today are reluctant to legislate for themselves.

For most children of political families, they see the new law as liberating because it frees them from the pressure of becoming politicians like their parents or siblings when they would rather be something and someone else.

Soon, the country will have a Congress that has been purified by this law, bold and inspired to accomplish what their forefathers who crafted the Constitution – to have the best minds and heart motivated by sincere desire alone to serve our people.

Enrile’s exposé

ON January 27, Juan Ponce Enrile, as he had promised, would unwrap what he said are new “damaging details” of the Mamasapano Massacre that killed 44 Special Action Forces (SAF) members of the country’s elite police segment.  Allegedly, the victims were slaughtered by Muslim extremists during what the government said was an operation to arrest, dead or alive, international terrorist Marwan. Marwan died in the attack, his finger cut and authenticated later by the FBI’s DNA tests as belonging to the Malaysian outlaw.  Millions of dollars were to be handed out as bounty to those who provided information to Marwan’s whereabouts.

Enrile said his move to reopen the Mamasapano Massacre was “really to know the extent” of President Aquino’s knowledge before and during the tragedy.  The senator asked: “Why did the President skip the 82nd birthday party of his late mother, the former President Cory Aquino (Jan. 25), in favor of a Zamboanga trip on the day of the massacre itself?”  Mr. Aquino had consistently denied he was in Zamboanga on Jan. 25 last year to monitor the Mamasapano operation.

The nation waits with bated breadth for Enrile’s expose.
