Dagupan cops aim to make 6 barangays ‘drug-free’

THE Dagupan City Police has set its eyes on making 6 barangays (or 20 percent of the 31 barangays) finally drug-free in 2016.

The new goal was bared by P/Superintendent Christopher Abrahano, chief of police of Dagupan, as he affirmed that his station managed to double its efforts in the campaign, literally more than doubling the number of their arrests and seizures in 2015 compared to the station’s accomplishments in 2014.

There were 323 drug pushers/peddlers and users arrested by the Dagupan police last year compared to 140 in 2014.

In 2015, the Dagupan police also seized P3.7 million worth of shabu from suspects compared to only Php1.2 million worth in 2014.

Abrahano vowed to intensify demand reduction activities this year and expressed hope that there will be more civil society groups and non-government organizations (NGO) in the city that will work for anti-drug advocacy.

He also said they will maintain the momentum and increase vigilance in Barangays Bonuan Binloc and Sitio Aling in Barangay Pantal, the two known drug lairs in Dagupan also identified by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency as such, in their anti-drug campaign in 2016.

Asked if the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) has been active in the anti-drug campaign, Abrahano said “BADACs’ performance is satisfactory but maintained more can be done “with an even more active involvement.” (Leonardo Micua)
