BAYAMBANG—A one-year-old toddler, apparently left to play on his own, met his death when he crawled up the bumper of a van parked at road shoulder in Barangay Darawey here on Jan. 10.

P/Superintendent Gregorio Galsim, police chief, said the victim, John Carlo Cayabyab, fell on the road and was dragged away for few meters by the L300 Mitsubishi van, when Butch Briones, 33, resident of San Vicente of said town suddenly moved it, unaware of the child’s presence. The van was parked in front of his house.

Cayabyab suffered head injuries and was rushed to Bayambang District hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by his attending physician.

Galsim said no one could ascertain where the boy’s babysitter was when the accident happened.

Briones was brought to the police station and is under police custody. (Tita Roces)
