Police muzzle-tape guns

LINGAYEN— It is not known if the muzzle-taping of guns of all government –issued guns to policemen and of guns owned by members of different gun clubs in the province helped in reducing the number of incidents involving accidental shooting from stray bullets but the fact is there has no reported incident in the province.

Only two incidents were reported by the Provincial Health Office.

P/Sr. Supt. Rolie Saltat seals the muzzle of the guns of gun club members and police personnel in the province.

The Pangasinan Provincial Police Office’s (PPPO) officer-in-charge P/Senior Superintendent Rolie Saltat, led the ceremonial muzzle-taping of guns of the members of five gun clubs in the province last week.

He said it was the first muzzle-taping of guns owned by gun clubs.

The tapes on the issued and personal guns of police personnel were removed on January 2.

The sealing of firearms issued to PNP personnel has become a standard operating procedure to stop indiscriminate firing of guns that has led to numerous injuries and even deaths from stray bullets.

“As our PNP Regional Director said, let this taping become not only a mere ceremonial but in its essence, ultimately be realized to help make the Yuletide Season a Happy and Safe celebration,” said Saltat. (Johanne Macob)
