Dagupan seeks sisterhood ties with Daly City
THE Dagupan Sangguniang Panlungsod passed a resolution last week expressing the city’s intent to establish a “Sisterhood” city relationship with Daly City in California, USA on motion of Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo.
Daly City is the largest city in the San Mateo County immediately south of San Francisco City with a population of 143,000, slightly smaller than that of Dagupan.
Tamayo said if the sisterhood agreement will be signed, Daly City will be the third city that Dagupan will have a sisterhood relationship with.
Presently, Dagupan has sisterhood ties with Iwata City in Japan established during the term of then Mayor Cipriano Manaois and Milpitas City which was established during the term of then Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. and renewed under the term of Mayor Belen Fernandez.
The mayor of Milpitas City is Jose Esteves, a native of Dagupan City, whose father Pastor Esteves was the city legal officer during the Manaois administration.
Tamayo expressed hope that Dagupan will benefit much in terms of cultural exchanges and student and professional exchanges, among others, if it concludes a sisterhood agreement with Daly City, home to many Filipinos, including Pangasinenses and Dagupenos. (Leonardo Micua)
