THE PLOY OF THE OPPOSITION. The rumor spread before the filing of COCs that Mayor Al will go up against Mayor Belen went pfft. It was a disinformation and a ploy to sow dissension in the ranks of the ruling party in Dagupan at a time when the mayor was attending a world confab in Chile.

Mortz Ortigoza said he got wind of the tall tale that Al was 95 percent sure of running for mayor with Vice Mayor Brian Lim as running mate from a close associate of the Lims. If that was not another ploy concocted by the opposition that’s running scared of Belen and her performance, I don’t know what is.

The presence of Al and of Fourth District Congresswoman Gina de Venecia and LNU chancellor Gonz Duque at the Comelec when Mayor Belen filed her certificate of candidacy on Oct. 14 belied that yarn.

The other black prop spread was the scenario that that Gina was going to challenge Mayor Belen. Well, Gina filed her COC for her reelection as congresswoman last Oct.15. — Leonardo Micua

DOUBLE-TALK ON TREE-CUTTING. Someone alerted me about this and I was surprised to see a copy of an approved provincial resolution dated March 9, 2015 titled, “Informing CENRO, Urdaneta City, that the Sangguniang Panlalawigan offers no objection to the cutting of various species of trees covered by road right of way of the proposed Philippine Rural Development Project, concreting of roads in Umingan, Pangasinan”.

Why am I surprised? Because I knew that the board repeatedly said in two resolutions reiterating its “NO to tree cutting in Pangasinan” position. They stood their ground (kuno) but what’s this approval for Umingan?

Is it exempted because it is not under the district of the Cojuangcos?

Part of the resolution read, “There is a need to cut down various species of trees along Barangays Gonzales, Casilan, Concepcion, San Juan, Luna Weste, Luna Este, Pangangaan, Prado and Fulgosino, all situated in said municipality, to give way to the said concreting of Rural Access Roads which will be implemented by the provincial government of Pangasinan”.

So a resounding YES if it is to be implemented by the provincial government? And a roaring NO if by the DPWH and under the fifth district?

May kinikilingan, pinapaboran? Alam kaya ng mga umaangal na grupo ng environmentalists ito?
