Incumbent Vice Mayors eye mayoralty

LINGAYEN—Incumbent vice mayors in at three towns in the Second District believe their time has come to be the town’s mayors.
In the capital town Lingayen, Vice Mayor Nepthalie Pasiliao filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) as he led his ticket “Team Para Sa Bayan” (under the Liberal Party) to local Comelec office.
Pasiliao is running against incumbent Mayor Josefina Castaneda, wife of the late Mayor Jonas Castaneda. In the 2013 elections, Nep and Iday were running mates under the Nacionalista Party.
Pasiliao’s vice mayor is incumbent Councilor Ramon Bataoil, brother of reelectionist second district representative Leopoldo Bataoil while Castaneda’s tandem is incumbent Councilor Jong Tapia (NP).
In Alaminos City, Vice Mayor Earl James Aquino (LP) is facing Mayor Arthur Celeste of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC). Celeste is the brother of reelectionist First District Rep. Jesus Celeste. Arthur, himself, was a former congressman.
Aquino is running with incumbent Councilor Anton Perez (for vice mayor) while Celeste is with incumbent Councilor Maan Sison-Isla, daughter of reelectionist First District Board Member Antonio Sison.
In Binmaley, Vice Mayor Pedro “Pete” Merrera III also made his bid for the mayoralty post official by filing his COC with running-mate incumbent Councilor Mito Sison under the LP flag.
Merrera is running against Mayor Simplicio “Sammy” Rosario who teamed up with. (Johanne R. Macob)
