Jaycees were in town for JCI national convention
SOME 2,000 Jaycee members were in Dagupan City for the three-day national convention of Junior Chamber, Inc. October 8-10.
National President Marc Brian Lim, also the city’s vice mayor, said the JCI, with its 200-strong chapters, holds the convention annually to provide development opportunities for the youth.
Dagupan Bangus Jaycees won the bid to host the 2015 national convention two years ago.
“JCI prioritizes the training for the youth on leadership and on becoming good citizens of the country,” Lim said during the NatCon press conference adding that JCI members are aged 18-40 years old.
“Being the host chapter, we will be able to promote what the city has to offer. The convention will also spur economic activities in the province as the market, the transportation and business sectors will all have the chance to earn,” Lim told the media prior to the arrival of the delegates.
Among the activities included the National Board meeting, courtesy call on Gov. Amado Espino, Jr., the holding of a mini “Bangus Festival”, JCI anniversary exhibit, boot camp, debate competition, trainings, basketball tournament and the Miss JCIP pageant.
A public speaking competition and the national launch of the Project Management and Effective Leadership training were also held. On the last day, ‘Temyong Awards’ and the Presidential Ball were held.
The local chapter had arranged trips for delegates to various major tourism destinations in Pangasinan that included the Hundred Islands in Alaminos City, Capitol compound in Lingayen town, and the pilgrimage site of Our Lady of Manaoag Minor Basilica. (VHS/PIA-1Pangasinan)
