MVUC funds road projects in Mangatarem, Asingan

LINGAYEN—The taxes Pangasinan motorists to the Special Local Road Fund (SLRF) under Republic Act 8794 or the Motor Vehicle Users Charge (MVUC) Law paid in the province will fund two road projects in the towns of Mangatarem and Asingan.

 The MVUC ‘s almost Php20 million fund will cover the costs of concrete paving of Olo-Naguilayan Road in Mangatarem and of Asingan-San Manuel-Agno Gorge Road in Asingan worth P9,997,379.82 and P9,676,350.39, respectively.

 The Sangguniang Panlalawigan had authorized Gov. Amado T. Espino Jr. to sign the memorandum of agreement with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government for the implementation of the two road projects.

 RA 8794 or the MVUC Law Section 1 states that “it is the policy of the State to provide for and ensure the adequate maintenance of national and provincial roads through sufficient funding for the purpose,” and that all monies collected shall be earmarked solely and used exclusively for road maintenance and improvement of road drainage, for the installation of adequate and efficient traffic lights and road safety devices, and for air pollution control.
