PPPO assures improved police efficiency
WITH 44 NEW PATROL UNITS
LINGAYEN—Communities in the province can expect not only to feel heightened police presence and visibility but improved efficiency in deterring commission of and solving crimes with the arrival and delivery of forty-four patrol units in all towns last week.
This was the assurance given by the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO) when it received new patrol jeeps from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
“Lalo naming paiigtingin ang pagsisilbi alinsunod sa tuwid na daan,” said Officer-in-Charge of the PPPO, P/Senior Superintendent Rollie Saltat during the blessing and turnover of the 44 patrol jeeps on September 1, 2015 at the PPPO grounds.
Aside from the new patrol vehicles, Pangasinan police has its bike patrol where each municipal/city police station was given two bikes to patrol remote barangays.
“This is aside from foot patrol being done by policemen for better police visibility,” Saltat said.
He said the last time selected municipal police stations received their patrol vehicles was during the administration of then President Gloria Arroyo.
“Only some lucky towns and cities got their patrol vehicles but under the Aquino administration, all have their share,” Saltat said.
Chief Supt. Benjamin Hulipas, officer-in-charge of the Police Regional Office 1, said the new patrol jeeps are expected to increase patrol activities in all the towns.
The other four city police stations, namely in Dagupan, San Carlos, Alaminos and Urdaneta will also have their patrol vehicles to be turned over in another occasion, Saltat said.
Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer of the Fourth District of Negros Occidental, who represented DILG Secretary Mar Roxas in the turnover ceremony, said he was asked to take Mr. Roxas place in the ceremony to avoid issues on early political campaigning since he has declared his bid for presidency in 2016.
He said DILG’s delivery of 1,490 patrol jeeps to police stations in the country will be completed next month.
Ferrer told local media that the House Committee on Public Order and Safety which he chairs, has began discussing the PNP Modernization Bill authored by Pangasinan Second District Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil.
Governor Amado Espino Jr., represented by Board Member Amado Espino III, expressed the provincial government’s gratitude to the Aquino administration’s cognizance of the needs of the provincial police. (Tita Roces/Johanne Macob)
