Pangasinan, 19 LGUs bag for good governance awards
FOR GOOD HOUSEKEEPING
THE Pangasinan provincial government, and 19 cities and municipalities in the province are this year’s recipients of the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Cited for good governance are the city governments of Alaminos, Dagupan and San Carlos, and the municipal governments of Alcala, Basista, Bautista, Bayambang, Binalonan, Bugallon, Burgos, Dasol, Laoac, Mabini, Malasiqui Mangaldan, San Fabian, Sta. Maria, Sto. Tomas and Sual.
Colisao said the successful local governments were awarded with access to the Performance Challenge Fund (PCF): seven million pesos for the province, five million pesos for the cities and three million pesos for the municipalities.
According to Reggie Colisao, DILG provincial director, she received the results of the 2014 SGLG assessment last week.
The SGLG was formerly known as the Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH), the brainchild of then Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.
“It is almost the same except that SGLG has only two options whether the local government unit (LGU) pass or fail in the assessment unlike in the SGH with bronze, silver and gold categories”, said Colisao.
She admitted SGLG is also stricter compared with SGH.
Colisao explained the evaluation was based on six basic elements, good financial keeping, disaster preparedness, social protection, business friendliness and competitiveness, environment management, and peace and order. (Hilda Austria)
