4Ps BENEFICIARIES ASSURED

A TOP official of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) confirmed that of the 123,923 family beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pampamilya Pilipino Program (4Ps) in Pangasinan, not a single one is in danger of being purged from the list.

This assurance was given by DSWD Assistant Secretary Javier Jimenez who was in Pangasinan even as she belied a malicious report being circulated around that the cash grants from 4Ps is a dole out or a bonus from politicians.

Jimenez said cash grant for 4Ps came from the General Appropriations Act or the National Budget approved by both houses of Congress, so no politician or groups of politicians can claim credit for the cash grants.

However, he warned that DSWD will delist 4Ps beneficiaries who continue to pawn their Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards to loan sharks after receiving their second warning and counseling.

He made it clear that pawning an ATM card is expressly prohibited under the 4Ps program.

In Pangasinan, Jimenez said, a few 4Ps beneficiaries were given just the first warning and counseling and never repeated it anymore, so nobody was given second warning.

He said link leaders in communities will report to DSWD any wrong-doing by 4Ps beneficiary, one of which is gambling, and if they are not complying with the requirements, i.e., seeing to it that their children go to school and get regular medical check up.

The DSWD official advised beneficiaries not to believe any politician that he or she can enroll 4Ps beneficiaries and to purge those who they dislike to boost their political stock because only DSWD can do so, he intoned.

He congratulated Mayor Belen Fernandez for the supplementary program empowering members of 4Ps by making them undergo livelihood training in order that the latter can put up their own income-generating projects and boost income of their families. (Leonardo Micua/ Tita Roces)
