Two young men commended for returning P100, 000

CALASIAO—Two young salesmen who returned a Php100, 000 cash they found along the road were commended by their barangay last Monday, June 22.

Barangay Chairman Mahadeva Das Mesina, of Barangay Longos said they awarded Noel Gille, 29 years old and Jervis Uson both residents of Longos, certificates of appreciation and a tarpaulin installed in the barangay elementary school commending them to set an example and a model for the young people to emulate.

Gille and Uson returned the Php100, 000 cash they found, which turned out to be owned by a lady doctor.

Gille narrated he was crossing the road going to his workplace, in an agricultural supply shop when he saw a bundle of Php1, 000 amounting to a total of Php100, 000 on the roadside.

“I got the bundle and showed it to my workmate (Uson) and we both decided we will give it to the authorities”, said Gille.

He said prior to their reporting of the found money, they saw a man looking for the amount.

“We did not immediately return the money to him because we were not certain if he is the real owner so we told him to meet us in the police station.” said Gille.

The man and his boss, a lady doctor who was verified to own the bundle of money, went to the police station to claim the money.

The man who was initially searching for the money was the driver of the lady doctor, and he reportedly dropped the bundle from his jacket while he was driving his tricycle on his way to Malasiqui.

Gille said keeping the money for themselves never crossed their mind since they value their dignity and honor.

“I had no interest in the money when I picked it up since that was not mine, I believe that I need money, I need to work hard for it, besides that money was also from the hard work of somebody else”, said Gille.

He admitted the lady doctor gave them reward money and they accepted. (Hilda Austria)
