Poe barnstorms in San Carlos, Dagupan

SENATOR Grace Poe was in town last Tuesday, barnstorming and acted every bit as a presidential wannabe –engaging the local media on the prospects of her being a candidate, after a round at the fish market with Dagupan Mayor Belen Fernandez, distributing farm inputs to farmers and tracing the roots of her adopted father, FPJ.

But through it all, she said she is still not decided on being a candidate.

She added she is visiting provinces is to evaluate the problems in the localities and come up with possible solutions to these problems.

Poe insisted she remains uncommitted to the prospect of running for the presidency but if and when she does, she will run independent and will merely be open to a coalition with a political party.

“I think it will be easy to be independent and I prefer coalition because in a political party you cannot tell them to choose the people they involve in the group”, Poe said.

She added political parties should have a mission and vision statement for the good of the country, insinuating that the political parties today are bereft of it.

Meanwhile, she also described the kind of person whom she will consider as a running mate in the 2016 polls: someone she can get along well with, someone she could trust, honest and with the same purpose to serve the country. “And must not be accused of plunder,” she said.

She pointed out that “the clamor of the people is not enough reason for me to run, I want it to come from me, because a candidate should have a framework or platform on the national security, poverty alleviation, globalization and ease of doing business.”

“I would like to see first if I could really take the challenge and if my programs will truly help the lives of the people of our country”, she said.

Poe distributed seeds and fertilizers to the farmers in San Carlos City where she also met with FPJ’s relatives after her visit in the market of Dagupan City. (Hilda Austria)
