Mayor Belen begins search for new site
NEW DAGUPAN CITY HALL
THE search for a relocation site for the Dagupan City Hall cannot wait.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP), anticipating the approval of the revised Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP), approved a resolution authorizing Mayor Belen Fernandez to start the search look for a lot along the Pantal-Lucao area as the site for the new location of the city hall, and to negotiate for its purchase.
The resolution authored by Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo expressed the need for a new city hall to replace the present one built sometime in 1937 when Dagupan was not yet a city, which is now dilapidated and showing signs of fatigue after more than 70 years of use.
Mr. Tamayo described the plan of the administration of Mayor Fernandez to transfer the city hall to a new location and he said the Pantal-Lucao area appears to be the most ideal location that will be responsive to the needs of a growing city.
He said Mayor Fernandez intends to restore the old city all to its old pre-war condition after its vacated and convert it into a museum that will become the repository of artifacts and relics gathered and to be gathered by the city’s Historical and Cultural Commission to remind residents and visitors’ of Dagupan’s past.
The planned new city hall will be a high rise building that will accommodate all city government offices, including those of national government agencies based in the city.
The new buildings design will be prepared by the United Architects of the Philippines-Pangasinan chapter. (Leonardo Micua)
