Binmaley Liga special election this week
BINMALEY– A special election will be held on or before June 5 to finally settle the leadership row in the town’s Liga ng mga Barangay (LB).
This was announced by LB provincial federation president Amado Espino III.
According to Espino, the LB National Executive Board has issued a resolution directing the LB Binmaley chapter to hold the special election for the LB municipal chapter positions.
It will be recalled acting Binmaley LB president Arsenio Merrera filed a complaint questioning the legality of the election of Barangay Balogo Chairman Douglas De Los Angeles as the town’s LB president.
De Los Angeles won in the election held on November 9, 2013.
However, Merrera contended that De Los Angeles’s election was not legitimate since there was no legitimate authority that called for the election.
Merrera claimed De Los Angeles violated the LB provision that requires representatives from the Department of Education, Commission on Election, and Department of the Interior and Local Government to sign the election results.
Although De Los Angeles participated in the election of Espino and other LB provincial officials, the national league eventually revoked Del Los Angeles’ election.
Consequently, Merrera was installed by the national LB, in a holdover capacity as Binmaley LB president while the case remains unsettled.
Espino said there are also other elections cases in other provinces. (Johanne Macob)
