FOURTH District Rep. Gina de Venecia called on municipal and city mayors in the district to require public and private schools to conduct earthquake, fire and flood drills at the start of classes.

De Venecia made the call when she met Mayors Bonafe Parayno of Mangaldan, Robert de Vera of San Jacinto, Kim Amador of Manaoag, Constante Agbayani of San Fabian and Belen Fernandez of Dagupan City at her residence.

Noting the preparations in Metro Manila neighboring provinces about the possibility of the East and West Valley Faults moving any time soon after close to 400 years of inactivity, De Venecia said there is also a need for communities in Pangasinan to also prepare for any eventuality.

She said an earthquake drill in schools will educate pupils, students and teachers how to react while they are inside their classrooms or in open areas.

Ms. De Venecia also reminded the mayors to inspect and determine the strength of buildings, particularly churches, public buildings and schools to withstand earthquakes so preparations and corresponding warnings can be made.

Meanwhile, De Venecia distributed checks from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for the LGUs feeding programs as follows: P149,000 for Dagupan, P497,000 for Mangaldan, P506,000 for San Fabian and P406,000 for Manaoag. (Leonardo Micua)
