New OIC-PD vows intensified war vs drugs

LINGAYEN—There is hope for a successful, intensified campaign vs. illegal drugs.

Pangasinan’s new officer-in-charge police director, P/Senior Superintendent Belli Tamayo, who assumed his post last Tuesday, wants police chiefs to intensify their anti-illegal drugs operations through strong police presence and to target big-time pushers.

“I know that drugs is a big problem here.” Tamayo, a native of Calasiao, told The PUNCH in an interview, even as he said he will continue all the initiatives of his predecessor, P/Senior Superintendent Reynaldo Biay, in the maintenance of peace and order in the province.

Biay was promoted as regional chief directorial staff of police in the Region 1 office.

He said he would discuss his strategy for the campaign during his first conference with the 44 town and city police chiefs next week.

“In every operation, there must be a target. I don’t want a hit or miss, yung tsamba lang (by chance only),” Tamayo intoned.

He said that under his watch, the police must zero in on big-time drug operators, and he will not be satisfied with the number of successful positive operations alone but by the quantity of illegal drugs and arrests of big-time pushers/drug lords.

“We should focus now on big-time operators, their drop points, it’s they’re just around and we would have them verified by our police intelligence unit,” he added.

The new OIC-PD said drug pushers operating in the province “could be either in urban or far-flung areas to avoid suspicion about their illegal trade”.

“There will be a regular audit of all police stations and determine whether they are performing or non-performing,” he said.

Aside from illegal drugs, Tamayo said he will focus, too, on loose firearms and arrest of most wanted persons.

Tamayo’s assignment in Pangasinan is his first provincial assignment in Region 1. He was previously assigned in Mindanao and in Region 6. (Tita Roces)
