More balikbayans compliment Dagupan Island Tours

MAYOR Belen T. Fernandez accompanied last April 27 40 overseas Dagupeños and tourists who returned to witness and participate in the 2015 Dagupan Bangus Festival, to experience the city’s newest attraction – the Island Tours.
The visitors came from New York, New Jersey, Utah and Sunnyvale, California, USA.
Fernandez said that it was heartwarming to hear from overseas Dagupeños and foreigners appreciate the transformation of the city’s rivers. “Before, the river in Dagupan was polluted, blackish in color and filled with fish pens making it difficult for our boats to penetrate the river when we go to the island barangays. But upon seeing it now for the first time since I migrated to the United States, I was really shocked to see the transformation. The fish pens are all gone and our rivers are so wide and clean. – Rose Bernal Aquino, New Jersey, USA
“The best! I enjoyed the Island Tour with Mayor Belen and I’m surprised with the look of our river now – it’s now clean and clear.” – Rizal Ico, Sunnyvale, California, USA
“I don’t see a single fish pen and I can see it is clean unlike before where it was filled with water lilies and its color is brown because of pollution. Now it is clear and bluish in color. I commend Mayor Belen for doing such a great job in clearing the river. It’s truly a sight to see for us as overseas Dagupeños.” – Romeo Bernal, New York, USA
“Our river now is something that we can be proud of. When we left Dagupan to live in United States, I remember it was dirty and filled with illegal fish pens. There is a big difference because now it is clean and I personally saw that the fishermen have bountiful catch.” – Lorinda Cerezo, New Jersey, USA
“I think Mayor Belen should be the mayor of Dagupan forever in order to maintain the cleanliness of our river. I know how difficult it was to remove all the illegal pens because most are owned by big time operators but Mayor Belen was undaunted by all the threats because she wants to bring back our river to small fishermen to help them improve their livelihood.”- Sofia B. Bautista, New York, USA
“I’m really enjoying it here especially seeing the small fishing structures and the plenty of fish harvested from the river. It appears to be cleaner and it’s so nice to be here in your Island Tours. I’m glad the city government developed its river into a tourist attraction.” – Elder Bruce Haslem, Utah, USA. (CIO)
