MONEY LENDING SCAM

THE borrowers from Bonuan Gueset have been scrimping and saving money so they can go together to the court and deposit these there and finally settle the score with their creditor, SSM Marketing.

This was bared by Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo, counsel of the borrowers, who said they intend to file before the court a petition seeking the nullification of the trust receipt agreement they supposedly entered with SSM Marketing with prayer for consignation and deposit to cover the principal amounts of their loans.

While no deadline was mentioned by Mr. Tamayo for the final court settlement, he said some of the borrowers were already sued for estafa before the Municipal Trial Court against whom warrants of arrest have been issued, but bail bonds were posted and awaiting the date of arraignment.

He advised those who were already served warrants of arrest, posted bail and summoned to appear before the MTC in Talavera, Nueva Ecija, to be represented by lawyers from the Public Attorneys Office (PAO) in that town.

He clarified that only the outstanding loan will be paid by the borrowers because that was their agreement in their first meeting with officials of SSM Marketing in late February.

Meanwhile, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) approved on April 21 a resolution of Mr. Tamayo asking Mayor Belen Fernandez to close the office of SSM Marketing located in Barangay Sabangan, Bonuan Gueset for having no business permit.

The One Stop Business Center of Dagupan has already certified that the company has not been issued with a business permit and neither is its name registered with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The modus operandi of SSM is to offer cash loans payable in 45 days with interest and serves thousands worth of appliances to sell as part of the loan without the borrower realizing it. (Leonardo Micua)
