HERE’S a piece of good news that farmers can look forward to as they struggle to survive the drought felt this year.

The National Irrigation Administration – Project Irrigation Management Office (NIA-PIMO) recently announced it has 59 projects underway in Pangasinan to improve and expand delivery of irrigation water to farmers.

Sr. Engineer Agapito Yamat Jr. said P450 million has been allocated for this year’s projects: District 1 – P58 million for 12 projects; District 2- P109 million for 8 projects; District 3- P77 million for 10 projects; District 4- P92 million for 9 projects; District 5 – P55 million for 5 projects, and District 6 – P87 million for 15 projects.

Meanwhile, Engr. Warlito Presto, also of PIMO, said irrigation has been cut off in Districts 3, 4, 5 and 6 since April 15 because most of the crops in the irrigable lands have already been harvested.

Irrigation in Districts 1, 2 and 3 are still on going as the areas are watered by the communal river system and not by the big systems operated by NIA. (PIA Pangasinan)
