Manila rider tops Mapandan cycling
FRESH from his victory in the master division of the Tour of Pines 2015 Vuelta Dagupan on April 10-12, Manila rider Resty Aragon of Excellent Noodles Team proved his authority anew in northern Luzon cycling road racing by conquering the 2nd BikeBakan ed Mapandan bikefest on April 18 during the host town fiesta celebration.
Aragon, 37, broke away from the main pack of 12 cyclists 30 kilometers from the finish and never looked back to negotiate the 95 kilometers flat trek in two hours 23 minutes and 38 seconds outdistancing his closest pursuer and teammate David Perez and Pangasinense Jesus Garcia by four minutes and nine seconds to bag the P3,000 top prize and a trophy donated by the town’s chief executive Maximo Calimlim.
Richard Labine and Ysmael Gendrano both from Manila came in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Rounding up the top ten were: Defending champion Joel Balucos and Virgilio Espiritu from Manila, Oliver Colimbino of Laoac, Joe Maramba of Dagupan City and Oscar Espiritu of San Manuel, Pangasinan.
2015 Laoac Cycling Challenge grandmaster category winner Ruel Gendrano of Manila ruled anew the grandmaster division with Diony Aquino of Mangaldan finishing second and 1986 Marlboro Tour champ Rolando Pagnanawon of Cebu landing third. Eddie Muyano of Laoac and Danny Ogoy of Natividad placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
The annual bikefest is another sports project of Mayor Calimlim and supported by Juverps Manufacturing Corporation. (JAG, Jr.)
